If you’ve been reading along, you’ve “heard” me say this before, but I think it’s worth repeating: Variety is Good! This applies to so many facets of life. Variety is good for one’s diet – something we really wish our kids would embrace! It’s good for the mind as it’s boring to do the same things all the time, right?
Variety is also important when it comes to exercise. Not only can repetitive exercise get boring and make one less likely to continue exercising – which would be bad – but the body adapts, which makes said exercise less effective. And that’s not helpful. So, as many of you know, I enjoy karate, which has built-in variety. (BTW, have you seen this news story?!). I also like to run (I just beat my personal record for miles per week 🙂 ). Plus I have found a number of great workout DVDs, which are especially good when time is tight or when the weather is not cooperative.
Anyway, the reason why I’m writing about variety, especially regarding exercise, is that I did something new AND fun today – I played tennis with a friend!
It was awesome. Neither of us had played in years, so we were on the same page and we had a blast. The game came back to both of us, like riding a bike, as the saying goes and it didn’t feel like exercise. I can’t wait to play again. I’m glad there’s still lots of time before winter so we can get out there and play.
Have you tried anything new lately? If not, I highly recommend it!
