Thanks to a good friend, I was able to get tickets to a Red Sox game. It had been a couple of years since I had been to Fenway and it was a treat to play hookey for a few hours and watch the game with my Dad. It was sunny, warm, and a bit humid and spending the afternoon outside doing something fun made it feel like an extension of Summer.
Shortly after the game, it started raining. It was one of those sun showers where it’s mostly sunny, yet one small cloud is sprinkling on you. I suppose this type of passing weather is the reason for the “If you don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes” expression in New England. Anyway, the rain holding off and not delaying the game was the good news. You may guess the bad news. Yes, the Red Sox lost. Again. They were in the lead, but after losing half a dozen games in a row, they may not even make the playoffs now. And I was so hoping the Red Sox would play the Phillies in the World Series. That would be fun as I’m a fan of both teams. (For those who are confused by this: I grew up in Jersey going to Phillies games with my Dad, who is from Pennsylvania. Since becoming a New Englander about a dozen years ago, Red Sox Nation has drawn me in.) Anyway, fitting the game in makes for an extra busy week, but I’m glad we went.
P.S – Unlike the previous ball games of the season, I went to this one kids-free. I enjoyed seeing games with the kids too, but this was much more relaxing. It was a good mom break.
