It’s Spring and I’m Back!!

One might think I was hibernating for the Winter, but it’s more that I was extra busy. Personally, the holiday season is hectic and work-wise, closing out the prior year is a very demanding time for a bookkeeper.  But now here I am again… I’m so excited to be blogging again!  Although I’ve been thinking about it for a while, I must give credit to a WSN friend who recently expressed how much she enjoyed my blog.  She is also a mom and a business owner and thus can relate to my struggles and rantings about work-life balance.  This is just the inspiration I needed to start writing again.  Blogging a great creative outlet for this numbers person and I love hearing from followers.  Thank you to those that remained subscribed during my hiatus!

So, what’s new since last Fall (other than these new Spring flowers blooming in our yard)?

Work – I’m excited to be in the 3rd year of my bookkeeping business and I feel like I’ve found my groove.  I’ve built up a nice client base with some fantastic, small business owners and I’ve become so busy that I’ve hired an assistant and I’m planning further expansion.  Very exciting!  Stay tuned for more.  🙂

Family – We had another overwhelming Christmas where Santa succeeded in thrilling the kids again.  Personally, I found it exhausting.  Now we’re into Birthday season: our kiddos are turning 9 & 7 already!  Time does fly and so the countdown to double digits is on.  At the beginning of the year, we celebrated Rob’s birthday with a family ski weekend.  Although it was only the kids’ 2nd time skiing, they took right to it and we had a blast.  Of course we had to drive north to find snow this year and much of it was man-made, but it was worth it.

Exercise – I am pleased that Jillian Michaels continues to release new, invigorating workout routines to keep exercising interesting.  (Can’t wait to try this one!)  These are particularly helpful over the winter months to prevent weight gain.  Must have a way to recover after cake ball season!  Karate is also going well.  I am a blue belt now and my son and I were tied for a while.  As he recently tested successfully, he’s ahead once again (green belt), which pleases him greatly.  Running has been unusually good as it’s been oddly warm here in New England this Winter.  So I actually got out for a number of runs and almost feel up to speed already.

How’s the work-life balance?  Well, things are still up and down, but overall I remain positive.  I have become more focused on priorities.  And having more concrete goals  (at least regarding my business) has helped me maintain course and keep things in perspective.  I have lots to share with you in the future.  For now, I have a few questions for you:

Fellow Business Owners:  How’s your 1st quarter?  How are your new year’s goals coming along?

Fellow Moms:  How “balanced” are things in your household?  Did you make any resolutions related to this?

Fellow Runners:  Have you raced yet this year?  If so, how’d it go?  If not, what are your plans?

Have a great week!

  1. I love Jillian, she kicks my butt though!

  2. Very nice blog post. So happy you have become a member of Women’s Business Network of SE MA.

It is not an easy road we women take on in trying to balance work and family. It is an easier road when we feel ‘sustained’ by our healthy bodies, the support of our family, encouragement of peers and a passion for the work we do.
    Keep up the momentum !

  3. Love your blog! It is nice to get to know you a little better – it is hard sometimes at the meetings with all of 30 seconds 🙂

I am also a mom (6, 5 and 2 year olds) and have been running my business for 6 years this April! I find that my definition of “balance” has been changing organically through the different phases of our growing family. I also work with several small business clients to help them find the right balance for them and it is such a rewarding experience!

Please post on the WBN Facebook group page when you have a new post. I would love to read it!

    • Tamara – thanks! As a new member, I’m still getting to know everyone at WBN. Lots of fabulous ladies to meet from what I’ve observed to far. 🙂

I agree – balance does and must change over time. So you’re finding balance with 3 young kids AND for your clients – awesome!

I will gladly share some posts on the WBN blog, but probably just periodically. Feel free to follow via email notification to see all my posts.

  4. Wow! So excited to see how many are reading my post and commenting too! That’s fabulous – thank you all!!

  5. Great come back! It is really nice to read this and get to know you outside of a networking group. I love the questions you pose at the end. Nice way to open so dialogue.

I am excited about how my business is going because I love to work with businesses in branding themselves and developing websites that carry their image. Recently, I have been working with some great clients. The balancing act with work, family, and health is always a challenge. When we take a day at a time, set time for our self, and count our blessings we can work wonders.

Now to get back to running. It’s been a few months since I have taken my dog for a run. Maybe by the time you write your next blog I will have gone for a run. ; )

    • Dionne – thank you! Your kind words inspired me to write again and it’s great to be back. I’m so glad we got together for coffee. There’s nothing like a good 1-on-1 networking session to get to know other better. We should meet again some time and check-in on each other’s businesses.

I hear you on the one day at a time focus. Good idea! And I encourage you to head out for a run this week as the weather is perfect. 🙂
